Comedor Angelitos supports families and strengthens the community by providing nutritious meals for children and offering a safe space for learning and recreation. Additionally, the Comedor provides school supplies such as backpacks and notebooks, clothing, and shoes to promote school attendance.  Education and nutrition are critical to facilitate opportunities and a better life.

Comedor Angelitos is the product of the vision of founder Maria Padilla Heller who has consistently found ways to support the community where she grew up.  First providing periodic food baskets to the poorest community members, Maria has now mobilized resources to build a community center to provide regular support and nourishment for neighbors and families in need.  With her own salary, savings, and donations, Maria has built a permanent location for the comedor. The permanent location of the comedor has been active since 2021.

 

Comedor Angelitos believes in the power of community, solidarity, and generosity. Together with community members and national and international support, Comedor Angelitos can make an immeasurable difference in the lives of countless children through nutritious food and community empowerment.

At its core, Comedor Angelitos seeks to alleviate hunger among children.  When not adequately nourished, children’s whole lives are a struggle.  They have greater difficulty learning; their growth is inhibited and their overall health and productivity declines; they often are driven to work and are deprived of opportunities for play and fun.  Healthy meals for the poorest children is critical for improving their lives and allowing them to learn and grow.
